Sat 2nd July

12noon - 5pm

University of Cambridge presents the annual Fun Lab, a space where everyone can get seriously hands-on with science, during the Big Weekend on Parker’s Piece.

Hosted by the University’s Public Engagement team, Departments, Institutes and Museums from across the University of Cambridge will join together with other partner organisations to offer free hands-on activities for all ages throughout the day.

Tattoo My Science (Gurdon Institute)

Get a (temporary) tattoo based on real cutting-edge biology research and meet Gurdon Institute scientists.

CamBRAIN

Visitors will be able to handle and dismantle life size brain models into their component parts and explore how all of the different parts connect using a 3-D brain app. Visitors can create a model of a neuron using different coloured pipe cleaners and/or play dough. Once, you have made a neuron, now see a real one! Using a microscope connected to a phone, our visitors will be able to view (pre prepared) slides which include sections of a human brain. Visitors can view different brain regions as well as close up images of individual neurons. Finally, design your own brain hat to take home with you along with all your brain facts!

Polar Museum

Learn more about penguins with the Polar Museum and make an origami penguin.

Fossils

Make rubbings of fossils from the Sedgwick Museum.

Plant Poetry

Meet plant scientist Anne Thomas, learn about New Zealand plants and be inspired to make visual poems with stones and stencils.
