Tchaikovsky        Eugene Onegin: Polonaise
Dvořák                Cello Concerto
Dvořák                Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’

For its second concert in the series, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, takes up the baton.

The concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Polanaise from the opera Eugene Onegin. Brimming with wonderful tunes and short motifs, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto transformed the musical world’s perception of the cello as a solo instrument and is played with consummate mastery by Gautier Capuçon.

Dvořák’s Symphony No.9, is a sublime, ethereal work from a composer at the peak of his powers.

Pre-concert talk: 6pm at Hilton Cambridge City Centre.  RPO's Managing Director Ian Maclay provides a fascinating insight into the orchestra's special relationship with its Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, in this, the orchestra's 70th year.  Free to concert ticket holders.
