Subterranean 2018 - Special guests confirmed

Thursday 31 May 2018

One of the hottest new rock bands, Wayward Sons, are set to join the line-up of Subterranean Festival 2018. They will replace Andy Cairns, who has withdrawn from the festival due to scheduling issues.

Wayward Sons are fronted by Toby Jepson who enjoyed huge success with former band Little Angels including a number one album, millions of records sold, massive sell out shows and numerous hit singles. Having also performed with rock legends Fastway, Gun and Dio’s Disciples Toby has also produced albums for numerous bands, including Saxon.

His heart however, is always in writing and performing and so the concept of Wayward Sons was born – a new band, built for playing live, a new direction with Toby’s songs centre stage and a new album, signed to Frontiers Music SRL, with all the hallmarks of a great debut.

Having formed only 18 months ago, the band have already picked up ‘Best New Band’ at the Planet Rock Awards in 2018 and look set for more great things.

Cambridge Live Operations Director and Festival co-curator Neil Jones said: “We are massively honoured to have the band at Subterranean. Having just released one of the best rock debut albums of recent years, the band have immediately set the rock work alight, notching up critical acclaim and awards along the way and their live set is amazing to see live. We look forward to welcoming them to Cambridge”.

Subterranean 2018 builds on the huge success of the inaugural festival in 2017. The Corn Exchange will be transformed into a four-stage music mecca, bursting with richly creative local talent alongside touring headliners. Three stages will be placed inside the auditorium - and as one band finishes on one stage so another starts on the next, giving people the chance to enjoy them all. Outside of the main space there will be an exclusively acoustic stage, where you can experience a more pared back musical offering.

The line-up features a number of bands from Cambridge and the surrounding areas, each bringing their own distinctive style and energy to the Festival. Playing alongside these local musicians will be some of the brightest names from the indie and rock scene.

Acts already confirmed are: headliner, Ginger Wildheart lead singer of The Wildhearts; Belfast two-piece band REWS; blue rock band Austin Gold who have recently picked up playlist support from radio 2; winners of Cambridge Band competition, indie / rock band Flint Moore; classic rockers The Brink who’ve just signed a global record deal; indie/alt band The Rose Affair; hard rock band Alter the Sky; Cambridge Rock Band, False Hearts; Spalding based punk band, I Got Spiders; three piece metal band, One Less God, featuring Jay Williams formerly of Broken Family Band; rising Cambridge rock band, The Hot One Two; ‘math-pop/indie’ band, Fes; indie/alternative band Among The Citizens; local singer-songwriter, Tom Lumley and 3-piece, Garage rock band, Gaffa Tape Sandy also seen on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury.
