Orkesta Mendoza’s mix of cumbia, mambo, indie and tex-mex psychedelia – all in well-cut suits – is coming to Cambridge!
Their brash, widescreen style and witty reference to 60s instrumental pop is both effortlessly classy and enormous fun.
Orkesta Mendoza is led by Mexican American kingpin Sergio Mendoza, who is also a member and co-producer of Southwestern music legends Calexico, and arranger and founder member of Mexrrissey.
"A sunny-side-up mix of cumbia, mambo, indie and electronica.” fRoots
“A musically defiant riposte to the virulent separatism of Donald Trump.” The Independent
"Tumbles happily between countries and styles; there’s the galloping country twang of Redoble, the Mexican mariachi horns of Mapache, the sedate Mambo a la Rosano, two slithering, madcap Colombian cumbias with splashes of rinkydink keyboards and a blast of garage rock on Caramelos. The elegant Calexico-like Shadows of the Mind completes a joyous travelogue.” The Observer
