Now in its fifth year and firmly established as a highlight in the city’s music calendar, The NMG Awards is a music awards celebrates the incredible talent potential of artists based in East Anglia. The Awards encourages and develops young talent as they take their first steps towards a career in the music industry.
 
Read on to find out more about just some of the incredible musicians who have been nominated...
 
HOLLOWSTAR (nominated in the Rock category)
The band began life in 2015 and have been raising the roof on venues and entertaining festival crowds ever since. Vocalist & bassist Joe Bonson joins brother, drummer Jack Bonson alongside guitarists Phil Haines and Tom Collett to create a distinctive take on classic, punchy rock. They have supported artists including Chantel McGregor and Toseland and regularly receive airplay on BBC Introducing. 
 
CATHEDRALS & CARS (nominated in the Alternative category)
Mainstays of the Bury St Edmunds music scene for over 5 years, vocalist Jack Stevens leads this three piece ‘intelligent art rock’ group who’s Influences include Death Cab For Cutie and Roxy Music. The band have won the NMG Award for Best Alternative Group for three years running.    
 
SEASONS (nominated in the Rock category)
SEASONS rapid rise over the last 18 months makes this category even more interesting. They are led by front man Grant Tuffs who’s no stranger to the NMG Awards having previously been nominated as a solo artist. They’ve already completed several UK tours, received national radio airplay on BBC Radio 1 and appeared in Kerrang! magazine.
 
Searching Grey (nominated in the Indie category)
Searching Grey are an Indie Rock band based in Haverhill. Vocals come from Nick Asbey, lead guitar from Carl Ledger, bass from Jonny Gunson and drums from Mike ‘Animal’ Jamieson. With gigs at venues including Cambridge Junction and Peterborough Met Lounge under their belts as well as festivals including performing two years running at Cambridge Rock Festival. 
 
Cumminz (nominated in the Electronic & Urban category)
Cumminz (real name George Cummins) is a Cambridge based producer & DJ. He’s made regular appearances at the Ministry of Sound club in London and in 2014 headlined the opening night of V Festival. 2017 is his third NMG Award nomination and follows him winning the category last year. Exciting collaborations involving popular singers Oscar Corney and Melody Causton are due for release soon.
 
SJ Mortimer (nominated in the Acoustic, Country & Folk category)
SJ has been performing solo for a number of years but it's in the last year she has played extensively with her band 'The Flying Pigs' (named because they met at the Cambridge pub of the same name). The Nashville inspired songstress has played venues as diverse as Ronnie Scott's in London and closer to home, wowed audiences in the Local Band Marquee at this summer's Big Weekend.
