Cambridge Music Festival presents: Takacs String Quartet

Thursday 15 November 2018
St Columba’s Church, Downing Street
At its best, chamber music is passionate, thought provoking and reflective; with just one person holding the floor, or all four arguing at once.

The Takács Quartet are masters of this ‘conversation without words’: ‘It takes just the first notes for the audience’s heart to leap … I’d plump for Takács’ fire any day.’ (The Times).
The Cambridge stop on the Quartet’s international tour contrasts the delicacy and rare beauty of Mozart with the spine-tingling chill of Shostakovich’s barely-disguised musical protest against Stalin’s regime, and Mendelssohn’s deeply moving elegy for his sister, written shortly before his own early death.

“Anyone can play with wild abandon; few manage to make it sound pretty. The Takács Quartet is an exception.” THE FINANCIAL TIMES
“Astounding unanimity and attention to detail.” THE GUARDIAN
