The Courtiers of Grace
A Rose there is ...
Friday 15 December, 7.30pm
Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge
Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Clare Wilkinson, together with her group the Courtiers of Grace, commemorates the 500th anniversary of Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses with a programme of music by Luther, Walther, Senfl, Josquin, Isaac and Praetorius, and readings from Luther’s letters to his family.
‘Music is God’s greatest gift.’ In 1538 Luther celebrated Christmas with music at home with his family. Music, made from the heart to the glory of God, was deeply important to him. A fine singer and lutenist, he was ‘joyful at table’ whenever a consort was formed after dinner. The Courtiers of Grace tell the story of a loving husband and father, theologian and musician, in letters and music.
