DVORAK – Quartet in F Op.96 (‘American’)
MENDELSSOHN – Viola Quintet in A
Victor Sun Guest Violinist (Cambridge University Student)

Dvořák's ‘American’ quartet is deservedly loved for its tunefulness, simplicity and directness. The Haydn with which we precede it is the work of a consummate genius, fully displaying the invention, good nature and beauty which make him so loved by audiences and, perhaps even more, players. After the interval we shall be joined by guest violinist, Victor Sun, a talented Cambridge University student studying Aerospace and Aerothermal Engineering!  He will join us for a performance of Mendelssohn’s Viola Quintet in A which is which is one of Mendelssohn’s most inspired and joyful pieces, miraculously the product of his teenage years yet never surpassed in his life’s work. It is full of light and joy, makes extremely virtuosic demands of the players, and includes a scherzo movement in the style which was Mendelssohn’s most characteristic and original fingerprint. It will end this year’s series in the most festive and celebratory way possible
