Venice and its people brought to life by Philomel, with the help of an array of instruments from recorders and viols to rebec and bagpipes. We walk the streets, navigate the canals and peer into churches, workshops, palaces. On the way we encounter carnival-goers and instrument-makers, princes and printers, musicians from the Ghetto and the nobles who danced to their tunes, the people drawn into the greatest trading city of its day and the people it sent out to the world. A vivid kaleidoscopic impression of a Venice which is partly imagined, partly real, and wholly magical.

Great St Mary's Church is in central Cambridge in between Trinity Street and King's Parade (opposite the Senate House). It is not accessible by car. The nearest car parking is either in the Grand Arcade car park on Corn Exchange Street or in the Park Street car park on Park Street.

The pre-concert talk will take place in St John's College Divinty School. This is on St John's Street and is opposite the Great Gate entrance to St John's College. The entrance to the Divinity School is round the side.

Cambridge Early Music is a registered Charity whose core activites involve running two early music summer schools each year, putting on an annual concert series is Cambridge, and carrying out other educational work with young people.
