Fashion in Motion

Find out how the Fitzwilliam Museum collection has inspired a national fashion line.

Beautiful botanical images from the Museum’s collection have been brought to life in an exclusive collaboration with high street fashion line, Oasis. Hear from the design team at Oasis, on how the new line was conceived and developed. Hettie Ward, Assistant Keeper of Paintings Drawings and Prints, will talk about the watercolours that inspired the range. With live fashion presentations of the new Oasis designs throughout the evening.

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts – a dedicated arts school in the heart of the city which offers fashion programmes at Foundation, BA and MA level -  has partnered with us to lead the discussion on the latest trends and topics in Fashion. 

Meet Head of Fashion Holly Fulton

Award-winning fashion designer, Holly Fulton, is Head of Fashion at the Cambridge School and leads its BA degree programmes.  Holly will talk about her own work and answer questions about how to make it as a fashion designer.
Plus, meet current students from the Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts, find out what it’s like to study fashion and see examples of their work.
 
Fashion illustration and collage workshop
 
Using imagery taken from artwork within the Fitzwilliam Collection this workshop, led by the fashion team at the Cambridge School,  will explore collage as a means to quickly generate ideas relating to fashion form and silhouette.
Participants will be shown how to illustrate using collage techniques and will produce experimental fashion designs.
 
Fashion and Textiles in the Collection 
 
Join experts for talks and discussions on fashion and textiles in the collection.
 

Samplers from the Fitzwilliam Museum

Drop in to meet The Fitzwilliam’s Keeper of Applied Arts, Dr Victoria Avery, and Carol Humphries, Honorary Keeper of Textiles, to hear about samplers with original examples from the Museum.

Fashion in the Frame

Join art historian Dr Harriet Riches, Course Director for MA programmes at the Cambridge School, for a short talk about early representations of fashion in our Dutch gallery.
