tba       New work  - the winning piece in NCS’ competition for a work for choir, Renaissance brass consort and audience chorus

A programme ranging over five centuries of choral music, sung here by different combinations of voices, viols and Renaissance brass instruments.    The centrepiece of the concert is Giles Swayne’s Everybloom, for choir and viol consort.  This contrasts with Tallis 40-part motet which is written for eight choirs of five parts, and the Lassus mass, written for two four-part choirs.

To give you, the audience, a closer insight into all of this, you will have the chance to take part in two very different works:   Tallis’ famous canon Glory to thee, my God, this night, and a new work for which NCS is holding an open competition.    Composers of any age can enter, writing a short work for brass consort, chamber choir and audience chorus.  Information about the competition is available at www.newcambridgesingers.org.uk.  The audience will be joining the choir for a rehearsal in the afternoon.   More information on the web site.
