A unique opportunity to see The Phantom of the Opera as you have never seen it before – with live accompaniment on the great organ of St John’s College.  It’s hard to think of a better place to see this most gothic of all silent films, or of a more spine-tingling accompaniment.  Richard Hills is one of the very few musicians truly to have bridged the divide between the classical and theatre organs; his skill in improvising live to this classic adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s story is awe-inspiring.

Regarded by many as the first great horror film, Phantom of the Opera is a gift to the improviser because of the great variety of emotions enacted. It is also famous for Lon Chaney’s horrific, self-applied make-up which was kept a studio secret until the premiere.

There will be a special encore at the end of the evening, a Richard Hills ‘lollipop’… !
