Historian and broadcaster Christopher Andrew, Chair of the British Intelligence Study Group and official historian of MI5, charts the development of espionage and security from a first appearance in the Book of Exodus to sophisticated twentyfirst- century deployments, via Renaissance Venice, revolutionary America, and surprising advances in China and India (amongst others), to reveal how intelligence operations have shaped the course of history.
