They never met, though all experienced hardship in murky late Victorian London. What they had in common was death: all were murdered in 1888 in Whitechapel by an unknown serial killer. With documentary skill Hallie Rubenhold gives the five their voices back in a devastating narrative and landmark study of a time and place.
