He is best known today for his masterpieces the Bank of England (now sadly vandalised) and Dulwich Picture Gallery, as well as his work on numerous country houses, such as Wimpole Hall itself. He was also one of the greatest collectors of his time, and Jerzy Kiercuk-Belinski will discuss how, within the walls of his other great masterpiece, his home at No. 13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, he created an extraordinary ‘Grand Tour’ of the ancient and modern worlds though the ‘union of architecture, painting and sculpture’.
