The devious Brits ruled over an area that spanned, at its peak, about a quarter of the earth’s surface. Virtually every meal we eat today still contains a taste of empire – yet the bad odours of racism, colonialism and day-to-day violence also linger. Cambridge historians Piers Brendon and Lizzie Collingham probe the events in the Empire’s rise and fall, and examine its legacy, both good and bad.
