Julie Smith is a Liberal Democrat politician and a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Cambridge. From 2003 to 2015, she was a local councillor on Cambridge City Council. Since September 2014, she has been a life peer and a member of the House of Lords.

This event is part of the Madingley Conversations series of talks on 'The Future of Lifelong Learning'. It takes place at Madingley Hall, home of the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) – a pioneering centre for personal enrichment and professional development continuing education.

The event will take the form of a lecture followed by a question and answer session, lasting around one hour in total. This will be followed by a buffet reception where you can meet the speaker and chat with other members of the audience.
