Patrick Gale’s novels have won him a legion of committed readers, and his 2017 drama for the BBC’s ‘Queer Britannia’ season, Man in an Orange Shirt, attracted thousands more. His considerable body of work has explored with sensitivity and style themes of art, music and spirituality, as well as sexual identity and family dynamics. He’ll talk about his novels, including his new book Take Nothing With You, which explores the collision between childish hero worship and extremely messy adult love lives through the story of an unlikely teenage cellist.
