In 1811, when the 6th Duke inherited the estate, the gardens had been sadly neglected by his father.  The elaborate restoration was led by Joseph Paxton who had been appointed by the Duke as head gardener. Paxton proved to be the most innovative garden designer of his era, and remains the greatest single influence on Chatsworth’s garden

Famous for its rich history, historic and modern waterworks and sculptures, its Victorian rock garden and maze, there is something for everyone in the 105-acre Chatsworth Garden. As well as the Maze, the Rockery and the Rose, Cottage and Kitchen Gardens, there are also over five miles of walks with rare trees, shrubs, streams and ponds to discover.  Another highlight is the redesigned Trout Stream which provided inspiration for the Best Show Garden at the 2015 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, There will be plenty of time to wander and enjoy the famous Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown landscape.

Please note that this visit is primarily to view these famous grounds and will include a tour of the gardens. Entry to the house is not included, however, this can be arranged on the day can (at your own expense), if desired.

Disabled access with a lift in the house, buggy hire, wheelchair access are all available but beware of slopes. For further information about access please visit the Chatsworth website.
