The Munnings Art Museum, is the former home of the artist Sir Alfred Munnings (1878-1959) and his wife, Violet. Described by Munnings as ‘the house of my dreams’, this elegant Tudor and Georgian building was where he lived and worked for over forty years. The house is set in forty acres of beautiful countryside in the Dedham Vale and owns the largest collection of artworks by this prolific East Anglian painter and former
President of the Royal Academy (1944-1949).

Friends will enjoy a private curator-led tour in the morning. After lunch in the Garden Café, we will make out way to the second venue of the day. The Minories Galleries houses a contemporary art gallery run by Colchester School of Art. The site is also home to a shop selling some of the best art and crafts to be found across the region. As well as the public gallery and shop, there is also an onsite ‘Tiptree’ Tea Room and a wonderful walled garden that is looked after by The Friends of The Minories. A listed Georgian building, The Minories is of local importance within the historic town of Colchester.
