Debussy’s only quartet is a gorgeous and brilliant exploration of
the fantastic and sensuous sound world uncovered by early
twentieth century French composers. It also has the hardest
second violin part in the repertoire! In the first half we play
Schubert’s one movement jewel, a sparkling relatively early Haydn
quartet (with a perfect slow movement and magical finale) and
Beethoven’s shortest quartet, concise and incredibly dramatic!
