Legendary pianist Mitsuko Uchida Mitsuko Uchida will be the holder of the Humanitas Visiting Professorship in Chamber Music with three events during the 2015-16 academic year.  The first event will be a performance of Beethoven’s Thirty-three Variations on a Waltz by Diabelli, followed by an interval, and then a lecture in which Mitsuko will explore the genesis of this extraordinary work, and its final links to Beethoven’s last piano sonata, op 111.  The lecture will finish c 9.45pm.

Dame Mitsuko brings a deep insight into the music she plays through her own search for truth and beauty.  Renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Beethoven, she has also illuminated the music of Berg, Schoenberg, Webern and Boulez for a new generation of listeners.

The other two events in her residency will be illustrated lectures, also at West Road, on dates in May 2016.

PLEAES NOTE THAT THE ORIGINAL DATES IN OCTOBER 2015 FOR THESE LECTURES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED, DUE TO DAME UCHIDA’S ILL HEALTH.  The lectures on 26th and 29th October will not be taking place then, but new dates for next year will be announced as soon as possible.  No advance booking will be required or possible for these lectures and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
