A feast of superb music, soulful and virtuosic by turns, from Venice’s golden age in the first half of the seventeenth century. It takes the form of a sequence of music for Vespers as might have been heard in St Mark’s Basilica by Claudio Monteverdi and his colleagues and followers, including Alessandro Grandi, Giovanni Antonio Rigatti, Francesco Cavalli, Johann Rosenmüller and Giovanni Legrenzi. Three leading early music singers are joined by the distinguished chamber group The Parley of Instruments, playing instruments of Monteverdi’s period.
