Become a Friend of Cambridge Folk Festival

Support our green festival

Thanks to the fantastic efforts from our audience and staff, Cambridge Folk Festival once again won ‘Outstanding’ at the A Greener Festival Awards in 2023! Thank you for all your help.

One of the key reasons we won this award is because we consider our waste outputs and aim to reduce and recycle as much as possible. Our recycling team work tirelessly to ensure we leave no trace.

We are pleased to invite you to become a friend of Cambridge Folk Festival and help us sustain and improve upon our waste and recycling efforts in 2024. Working in harmony with the beautiful grounds we are fortunate enough to call home is imperative to the future of Cambridge Folk Festival.

Our festival’s waste at 0.3 kg/person/day is significantly lower than the industry benchmark of 2 kg due to our efforts managing and encouraging reductions.

The funds raised from members is ring fenced for our costs from a company who help us with our waste and recycling. As a Friend of Cambridge Folk Festival we will include your name on our ‘Friends of Cambridge Folk Festival’ page in our programme and on our website.

Our waste and recycling team provide skips, bins and recycling bins for our audience, staff and artists across several festival sites. Our recycling compacters are regularly emptied and monitored throughout the festival and glass and cans are hand picked from the festival grounds each night for recycling.

The waste/recycling is taken to Thalia (Waterbeach) where the recycling is separated with magnets and infra red and is recycled. All the leftover food from the caterers is composted and cooking oil is recycled.

We aim to maximise our recycling in order to maintain our Outstanding award with the ‘A Greener Festival’. A flyer is produced to explain our recycling to campers at our various sites.
